Welcome to Math 109
The Course
Math 109 Elementary Statistics is a 5-credit, college-level mathematics course that requires a pre-requisite of Math 098 Intermediate Algebra with a grade of 2.0 or better, or appropriate COMPASS placement score. Math 109 will satisfy both the math and the quantitative reasoning requirements for an Associate of Arts degree. This course transfers to four-year colleges or universities as math credits.
The course is designed to give an introduction to the basic statistical techniques for descriptive and inferential data analysis and to show how these techniques are useful as an aid in the decision making process. The emphasis is on the use and application of techniques in business and social sciences.
Class Format
The method of learning in this course is mostly studying the textbook with guidance from your instructor. You, the student, spend time reading the text, studying the examples, and practicing the material by doing homework problems. This will require you to schedule periods of uninterrupted time for your math class. It is expected that you spend 8 to 10 hr per week to study for this course. Your commitment to your math class will determine your success.
