1. Determine Readiness by Talking With Parents, Teachers, or Counselors.
Students taking college courses should have the maturity, initiative and desire
to study independently. Study requirements vary from one
to two hours of study for each hour in class. Students must be responsible
about attending school everyday, even if there is a conflict between
high school and college vacations.
2. Take a Placement Assessment - (206) 764-5387.
View the schedule of assessment tests. There is no fee for assessments tests, but students must bring high school identification to our cashier for a voucher to enter the test.
COMPASS, a computerized test, is recommended for native English speakers and ESL/COMPASS for non-native speakers. More information and study guides for the COMPASS and ESL/COMPASS are available online. COMPASS scores are available immediately.
3. Schedule an Initial 30-Minute Academic Advising Appointment - (206) 764-5387.
When scheduling your appointment for a placement test, ask to schedule
an advising appointment with the Running Start Director. This meeting must take place after completing the test since the test determines eligibility for the various levels of English and/or mathematics courses. The Director has pre-enrollment form on file, if needed.
4. Meet With High School Counselor.
Students must consult with their high school counselor each quarter to determine
course equivalency for graduation requirements and together fill out their pre-enrollment form for college courses. Graduation requirements are established by each high school.
5. Meet With Running Start Director to Register - (206) 764-5387.
You will need to meet with the Running Start Director to register for your classes. You should call to either schedule an appointment or to verify the "walk-in" schedule for Running Start students. You will need to return
your pre-enrollment form for signing. After registering, adding and/or dropping courses can only be processed by the Director during a scheduled appointment.
6. Purchase Books from the Campus Bookstore - (206) 764-5338.
Books are organized on the shelves by course number and section. To
identify required books, take your class schedule with you. Buy early
to ensure having books for the first day of class.
Save the receipt;
no refunds or exchanges are made without a dated receipt. Please note
that returning a book with any writing in it minimizes the possible
refund.
If you are unable to financially purchase books, AND you qualify
for reduced lunches at your high school, you may be eligible to receive
books at no cost from our book loan program. For more information
regarding this program, please call 768-6478.
7. Attend A New Running Start Student Orientation - (206) 768-6478/764-5805.
Orientations for new Running Start students are offered prior to the beginning of the quarter. After you have registered for your classes, you will receive information in the mail regarding this orientation which is mandatory for new Running Start students and parents.
