Library Research Computers
Computers on the library network enable users to access library collections and other resources and services in support of curriculum and research needs. The library provides:
- 25 PC stations in the reference area, and 17 in the instruction lab (schedule permitting) with Internet access and basic Microsoft Office applications.
- 12 laptop computers for check-out by SCCC students, faculty, and staff for wireless access to the Internet.
- 2 black/white laser printers.
To use library computers, you must:
- be a current Seattle Central Community College student or staff member.
- login with your Library Reference or Wireless Account to access the Internet and network printers (ARUBA screen).
Assistive Technology
The library provides the following equipment and software to reduce or eliminate barriers, and increase independence for people with disabilities.
All library research computers:
- JAWS (version 5.10.382) - reads electronic text aloud
- ZoomText - magnifies the computer screen
One designated PC workstation - east wall in the reference area:
- OpenBook (version 5.0) and scanner - converts scanned text to electronic text and reads text aloud.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) - east wall in the reference area:
- Text enlarger for books and other print materials.
Windows accessibility options: All PC workstations are equipped with text magnifiers, narrators and online keyboards accessible from the Start menu under the “All Programs” > "Accessibility" link.
Students who need assistive technology software training should contact the Office of Disability Services at 206-587-4183 (Voice or TTY).
Library Open Lab
In addition to the library's research computers, eligible students may use the Open Lab located on the library's west end during open hours. This lab provides:
- 20 PC computers where students may work independently with basic level support
- Windows XP, MS Office XP and various software for specific programs of study
- black and white laser printing
Students wishing to use the Open Lab computers in the library must:
- be enrolled at Seattle Central Community College
- pay the quarterly Universal Technology and/or Computer Lab fee
- access with their assigned Student Network Login (NOVELL screen)
