Top Ten + 2 Steps to Academic Success –

Before the quarter, verify that you have the right background for the course(s) that you plan to take.  Meet with your advisor/counselor each quarter.

Know the rules & policies for the course as stated in the course syllabus.

Attend class every day.  Bring  your textbook, equipment and supplies.

Arrive on time.

Use a separate notebook for each class to retain syllabus, homework assignments, hand-outs and exams.

Complete each assignment on time—do not get behind.  Expect at least 2 hours of homework daily for each class.  Use a planner to schedule class and homework time.

Master each assignment.  Check answers for 100% accuracy.  Ask questions as soon as possible about anything you do not understand either in your textbook or in your classroom discussions.

Get individualized help from your instructor(s).

Use campus resources – the Writing Center, MAST, CLIC, Tutor Center services—as needed.

Participate in study groups with classmates.

Use quizzes and exams as learning opportunities.

Review previous assignments and exams periodically.
